Be a part of Halton's vibrant cultural progress!
The Halton Black History Awareness Society (HBHAS) is looking for volunteers to help with our ongoing activities and programs to erode racism, prejudice and stereotyping towards marginalized communities while increasing knowledge of Canadian history and its cultural landscape.
This is achieved through events including our Annual Halton Freedom Celebration Festival, Annual Emancipation Art Exhibition, an HBHAS Gospel presentation, and HBHAS Presents - speaking engagements to the public, elementary/secondary/ university & college students, businesses, youth mentoring, community groups, and historical/genealogical and heritage organizations.
2022 Halton Freedom Celebration Festival
in Burlington, Ontario, Canada - July 30, 2022
Come help us recognize and celebrate the Emancipation Proclamations of Canada and the USA. Our celebration of the August 1, 1834, British Commonwealth Emancipation Act is especially relevant in that Burlington, Ontario, Canada, has been recognized as the 1st city in the world to acclaim August as Emancipation month. This acclamation took place at our 2018 Halton Freedom Celebration Festival.
Present opportunities include the following:
Marketing/Promotions Manager: Oversee all aspects of promotions for our 5-year-old Art Exhibition incorporating Social Marketing, Networking, Advertising, Artist’s collaborations, designing and distributing marketing programs and arranging program and Artists’ interviews and promotions.
Education Administrator: Support our Education team which presents speakers, spoken word artists, workshop facilitators and developers and, panel collaborators, in managing participant input, partner collaborations, student volunteer authorizations and documentation.
Committee Members: Strategic and operational development of HBHAS events and programs
Social Media Volunteers - Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter, Instagram, etc.
Community, Youth & Public Relations Representatives - Youth, Community and Cultural Outreach
Administrative Services - Administration, documentation, and disbursement
